We support the National Safety Council (NSC) in observing National Safety Month and plan to spend the month of June focusing on this important topic. The NSC reports alarming statistics on workplace injuries and deaths. Some of the more shocking figures from 2020 include:

  • 4113 preventable injury-related deaths
  • 4 million medically-consulted injuries
  • Costs of $643.7 billion

To bring more attention to this problem, share experiences, and start important conversations about workplace safety, Wellness Coaches will follow the NSC’s National Safety Month week-to-week schedule of topics:

  1. Week 1: Musculoskeletal Disorders
  2. Week 2: Workplace Impairment
  3. Week 3: Injury Prevention
  4. Week 4: Slips, Trips, and Falls

Throughout the month, we will be polling our social community on various topics that pertain to workplace safety and asking you to share your ideas, your experiences, and your preferences around this timely subject. At the month’s end, we will compile the results and share your feedback.

For starters, here’s our take on workplace safety…Wellness Coaches’ injury prevention coaching program consists of three core components that surround workplace safety: wellness, body mechanics, and mindfulness.

Wellness: Optimizing personal health and wellness reduces injury risk; it is clearly established that healthier, fitter employees are safer and less likely to be injured. Our Wellness Coaches support improved health through nutrition counseling, physical fitness, stress management, injury prevention, tobacco cessation, and resilience training.

Body Mechanics: Wellness Coaches can also help employees and employers identify and avoid risky workplace behaviors and prevent injury. We educate clients on the fundamentals of proper body mechanics for safe work performance and risk mitigation.

Mindfulness: Wellness Coaches’ mindfulness training helps to identify musculoskeletal concerns and work through tightness and vulnerability in the body, which prevents injury. Mindful is also an important stress management tool and is shown to improve overall health.

In support of our friends at the NSC, we are joining them in the campaign to highlight workplace safety and to provide a forum for our social community to share their concerns, successes, and ideas around workplace safety. But more importantly, we reaffirm our year-round commitment to safety in the workplace and beyond. Learn more about our safety and injury prevention coaching services.
